What's on in the Coromandel

What's on in the Coromandel?

Repco Beach Hop 2020 participants will be cruising around Coromandel this week for the delayed 20th birthday celebrations.  The arrival of the entrants and around 100,000 car enthusiasts is expected to infuse more than $10 million into the local economy.  Keep an eye on our Facebook page for any important information regarding this event and for any road closure information check out our Council website.

  • Don't forget: No alcohol can be consumed in any public place over Repco Beach Hop. The ban is in place from 4pm, Tuesday 24 November to 4am on Monday 30 November. You can get an instant fine of $250 or be arrested if you breach the ban.
  • With planned cruises to Whitianga today and Onemana on Friday, motorists are asked to be particularly patient at the one-lane bridges on these routes if they’re heading in the opposite direction. You can find information on the road closures in Whangamata and Whitianga on our website: www.tcdc.govt.nz/roads.
  • We know many pooches also come and enjoy the Hop. A reminder to owners keep your dog on a leash in public places. There are areas you can exercise your dog off-lead, see tcdc.govt.nz/dogrules.

A COVID-19 free pop-up testing site will be operating during Beach Hop.  We know everyone is raring to go for this year's Beach Hop in Whangamata, but Waikato DHB is urging people to put the brakes on and stay home if you're feeling sick. If you're attending over the coming days and you do start to get cold or flu-like symptoms, a free pop-up testing site will be operating on Beach Road near the Whangamata Marina between 10am and 2pm from Thursday to Saturday.  The site, which will be run by Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki, will be drive-through and also allow walk-ins. The Whangamata Medical Centre can also test those with symptoms, however patients need to call ahead. They will be screened for respiratory symptoms on arrival and be required to wear a mask.  If you have any concerns or queries about your risk of COVID-19, we encourage you to call Healthline on 0800 358 5453 to get advice on getting a test.
