Economic Development and Communications

Group Manager: Laurna White

Laurna White

Laurna White started work at the Thames-Coromandel District Council in 2012.

"What I enjoy about my work is that no two days are the same - be it putting out communications about how we're managing response to COVID-19, to meeting people out in the community for a consultation, to discussions with iwi about their economic visions, to getting the Mayor to front for a TV interview on any issue. Plus I have an amazing, engaged and energetic team - and get to deal with all the different departments to hear what is going on around the business," says Laurna.

"My role in the communications and marketing side is media, public relations and crisis management. Managing our communication channels, branding and marketing. From an economic development perspective, it's meeting with businesses (new and emerging) to see how we can help make working in the Coromandel really take off. It's regional and government liaison to try and get funding for ED projects, as well as relationship building with different partners."

"My background is communications having worked in national print, television and radio for 20+ years, reporting, producing and managing news bureaus. I have a Grad diploma in Journalism and currently finishing a Grad diploma in Business at Auckland University Business School."
