Community Pools
We also support three fantastic community swimming pools located in Mercury Bay, Whangamatā and Coromandel Town. While we are surrounded by the ocean as an option to cool off, our community pools offer a safe, fun alternative and are worth jumping into over summer.

About Whangamatā Community Swimming Pool
The Whangamatā Real Estate Community Swimming Pool is also a community owned and operated pool. We rely on grants, funding, entry fees and hourly rental from Whangamatā Area School, and opens between Labour weekend and Easter.
The pool was built by the community in 1991 on the Whangamatā Area School grounds using volunteer labour and fundraising. As a result of further fundraising in 2002, solar heating was installed to extend the season and the Menz Shed recently built a new deck.
Over the years the pool has served the Whangamatā community well, providing aquatic activity to young and old, these include fun-days for kids, squad swimming, learn to swim programmes, aquarobics and recreation. It is also regularly booked for birthday parties.
The pool is an important part of the community with regular use by local swim and surf clubs.

About Coromandel Town Community Swimming Pool
The Coromandel Community Pool is a valuable community asset that has been a part of the Coromandel Community since 1999. The outdoor facility consists of a 25m six-lane solar heated pool and a smaller heated toddlers pool, complete with changing rooms and an upstairs hall complex, operated by the Coromandel Community Recreational Society during the months of October to April.
The pool is a lively environment with daily users, students, Coromandel Swimming Club, learn to swim and water safety programmes. The hall complex is used regularly by community groups such as tai chi, martial arts, ballet and The Spirit of Coromandel Trust. Annually the swimming club have their 24-hour swimathon and several local schools also hold their swimming sports events.
The society is run by a group of volunteers who contribute extraordinary hours to oversee the operation, maintenance and development of the facility. A pool manager who is responsible for the day-to-day running. During the season, the pool is open every day except Christmas Day (hours of operation differ depending on school term time) and is utilised by all, including an increasing number for physiotherapy after an injury.
