What is the MTFJ?
The Mayors Taskforce For Jobs (MTFJ) is a nationwide network of New Zealand’s Mayors, working together towards the vision of all young people under 25 being engaged in appropriate education, training, work or other positive activity in their communities.

About the Workforce Programme
Our Workforce Programme is part of a Community Employment Programme developed by the Mayors’ Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).
Funded by the Ministry of Social Development the focus of the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) Community Employment Programme focuses on assisting young people aged 16-25 secure sustainable employment.

Thames-Coromandel District Council partner with Ngāti Maru Rununga to assist our local jobseekers find employment. We also work with Community groups around the district that support youth to help identify employment opportunities.
We look to build relationships with local business to create a stronger local workforce. There is funding readily available to those businesses wanting to employ via the programme.

DOC partnered with Pare Hauraki to deliver on a Nature-based Solutions Pilot Project at Fletcher Bay. The project focused on the Fletcher Bay Campground Flood Resilience after the impacts of the North Island Weather Events 2023.
The Pare Hauraki Nursery Project was a 3-year Kaimahi Jobs for Nature Project established in July 2021. DOC’s purchase of the 75,000 plants required for the Fletcher Bay project enabled Pare Hauraki supported by MTFJ to employ one further rangatahi in the nursery. Pare Hauraki also employed 4 rangatahi as part of the planting team at the DOC Fletcher Bay planting site. The employment was a 5 month fixed-term contract. The rangatahi employed have gained skills and confidence to better prepare them for further workforce opportunities.
