Our Economic Development Work
Our Council is serious about creating vibrant, strong communities and stimulating economic development. We're also here to help our business sector however we can, so contact us with your new idea, business venture or expansion plans; we're here to help.
Our Economic Development focus
Our Economic Development focus is on positively influencing and facilitating economic prosperity in the Thames-Coromandel district. We want to:
- be flexible enough to respond to opportunities as they arise;
- ensure that we are providing the framework and business focus to engage with business effectively;
- provide or facilitate the infrastructure necessary to cater for economic activity, and
- ensure that our policies support, not hinder.
Our Economic Development team cares about improving living standards and the quality of life in the Thames-Coromandel. We do this by supporting business and economic activity.
We work on projects that attract investment, support employment opportunities, develop businesses and sectors, provide enabling infrastructure, and add to the vibrancy of our communities.
Our team prioritises initiatives that:
- Have a lasting impact
- Attract funding and resources
- Create employment
- Are business or community led
Our Economic Development teams work programme is currently framed around four broad areas.

Connecting regionally and nationally
Economic Development outcomes are often achieved by elevating the needs of the district and key sectors regionally, nationally and even internationally. We maintain strong relationships with regional and national economic development actors who can also provide investment or support for the district. These include central government agencies and officials, economic development practitioners, education providers, investor agents, and our regional tourism operator Destination Hauraki Coromandel.
