What is Hauraki Opportunity?

The Hauraki Opportunity is a community initiative designed to engage residents and stakeholders in the area, gathering insights and feedback for local development and wellbeing projects. This initiative is primarily funded by Trust Waikato through the Waikato Wellbeing Project’s Te Ara Poutama initiative.

Te Tara o Te Whai, Waikato Wellbeing Project, Thames-Coromandel District Council, Hauraki District Council, and Matamata-Piako District Council, with delivery support from Measurement Partners Huber Social and Melde. The survey, which aims to hear from individuals aged 16 and upwards, is open from October to February.

By engaging a diverse range of voices, the initiative seeks to ensure a comprehensive understanding of local needs and perspectives.

How your responses will be used

The data collected will be beneficial in several ways:

  • Local insights: We can break down responses by sub-districts, enhancing the information collected from census data.
  • Community support: Local groups can use the data to strengthen their funding applications.
  • Policy development: The information will guide Council's policy decisions and strategies.
  • Funding allocation: It will help Councils allocate resources more effectively.
  • Understanding our communities: Our front-line staff will gain better insights into the communities they serve.
