District Licensing Committee
The Thames-Coromandel District Licensing Committee deals with alcohol licensing matters for the Thames-Coromandel District under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 (the Act).
The Thames-Coromandel District Licensing Committee is a separate legal entity of Council. The functions of the District Licensing Committee are specified by the Act.
The District Licensing Committee considers and determines:
- all new licence applications for licences and manager's certificates, either contested or uncontested
- all renewal applications for licences and manager's certificates, either contested or uncontested
- applications for Temporary Authorities
- applications for variation.
Other functions of the District Licensing Committee include conducting inquiries, reporting and making referrals to the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority (ARLA).
Contested applications (applications that are opposed or objected to) are heard in front of a panel of the District Licensing Committee at a public hearing.

Uncontested applications for a licence or manager's certificate are decided on solely by a commissioner.
Contested licence or manager's certificate applications require a quorum of three District Licensing Committee members, and will consist of a commissioner and two list members.
