The Code of Conduct (“the Code”) sets out the standards of behaviour expected from individual elected members in the exercise of their duties. It commits the members to ethical, business-like and lawful conduct, including proper use of authority and appropriate decorum when acting as Council members or representing the position of the Thames-Coromandel District Council.
Schedule 7 of the Local Government Act 2002 (“the Act”) requires each local authority to adopt a code of conduct. Once adopted, all elected members are required to comply with the code.
This Code of Conduct provides guidance on the standards of behaviour that are expected for the Mayor, elected members and appointed members to Council committees of the Thames-Coromandel District Council.
The Code of Conduct applies to elected and appointed members in their dealings with:
- each other
- the Chief Executive
- all staff
