Strong winds and heavy rain head for the Coromandel

MetService explained this was due to “a deepening area of low pressure” set to barrel over the North Island on Tuesday, bringing a period of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong gusty winds with it.

The graphics below show the intensity and direction of the wind and bursts of heavy rain tonight through into tomorrow morning.

Make time today to secure outdoor furniture and structures and, if you are travelling, allow time in your travel plans for possible traffic delays. With all the heavy rain of late, it's likely that trees could fall and block the roads.

For Repco Beach Hop visitors, the Warm Up Party on Wednesday afternoon in Waihi looks to be rain free, but very breezy.

We will monitor developments closely so stay connected to MetService and our Council's Facebook page for any updates, and check out Waka Kotahi/NZTA for State Highways information.
