Roading projects underway in the New Year

Stay up to date at tcdc.govt.nz/roads

Pumpkin Flat Road, Kūaotunu (Monday 13 January)

On Monday 13 January, between 8am-5pm, resurfacing work will take place at the cul-de-sac at the end of Pumpkin Flat Road (weather dependent).

To ensure everyone’s safety, STOP/STOP traffic management will be in place, potentially causing delays of up to 10 minutes.

Residents will still be able to access their properties, but please allow extra time when entering or exiting the area. Traffic controllers will be onsite to assist and guide you safely. Please follow their instructions at all times.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these works are being completed.

Colville Road repairs start February

In February, our contractor Kelsey Construction will be starting work on a steel pile retaining wall near Colville Bay, as we progress works to restore Colville Road to two full lanes.

Work is set to begin Tuesday 11 February and should be finished by mid-April 2025.

We’ll have traffic management in place to help progress things smoothly and minimise any disruptions.

The plan is for one lane to stay open under traffic signals for most of the work, with potential delays of up to 15 minutes. At some stages, the road may be closed for 50-minute intervals, with 10-minute openings on the hour, every hour. We’ll let you know about this in advance.

Restricted fire season

Restricted Fire Season.jpg The whole of the Waikato fire district including Thames-Coromandel is under a fire restriction from 9am today, Friday 10 January, until further notice. This means anyone who wants to light an outdoor fire will need a fire permit authorised by Fire and Emergency New Zealand, which can be applied for at www.checkitsalright.nz or by phoning 0800 658 628.

The website also provides guidance on how to light open-air fires safely, and to make sure they are fully extinguished afterward.

“We are continuing to monitor the weather and the fire risk in the Waikato District, as it is expected conditions may dry out further,” Fire and Emergency New Zealand Waikato District Manager Daryl Trim says.

“Please do the right thing and apply for a permit to help keep yourselves and your community safe when using fire.”
