Rates Instalment two issued from today
Keep an eye out—Rates Instalment notices are being sent out from today. If you don’t receive your notice via email or post within the next week or two, please get in touch. You can call us at 07 868 0200 or email at customer.services@tcdc.govt.nz.
In this letter, you’ll also receive a Ratepayer Elector Roll flyer. It’s got some information on the upcoming local elections and how you can enrol to vote. Enrol now – the Ratepayer Electoral Roll closes on 1 August 2025.
Important reminder: beware of scams
We are aware of scam attempts circulating which include automated messages. Please note:
- Our Council does not use automated messages.
- Any official communication will come via a staff member or a letter with the TCDC letterhead.
If you suspect you’ve received an automated scam call, please report it to us immediately. We’re here to help.
Kūaotunu fire
Huge gratitude to the firefighters who worked tirelessly most of this week to extinguish the Kūaotunu fire.
Black Jack Road has reopened, with 30km/h speed restrictions across the impacted area. Motorists are told to expect possible delays.
Visitors and residents are reminded that there’s a ban on outdoor fires throughout the district and Waikato region unless you have a permit. Find out more or apply for a permit at www.checkitsalright.nz or phone 0800 658 628.
Harbour view road, Whangamata
Harbour View Road, Whangamatā will be closed to motorists to urgently repair a damaged culvert on Tuesday 21 January between 7:30am-5pm (location details below). Access for pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained throughout the project.
Please follow traffic management personnel instructions to ensure everyone’s safety.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete these essential repairs.
Boer War Memorial
Lest we forget... The Boer War Memorial in Victoria Park in Thames has now been restored following vandalism of the spire a few years ago.

The Greenstone Entertainment concert series returns to Whitianga this year and town is expected to be pumping with plenty of people about.
Anyone not sure of travel can hop on a free Whitianga Town Shuttle travelling from Whitianga Information Centre and Buffalo Beach Reserve to the concert and back this Sunday between 9am to 1pm and 5pm to 8pm. Anyone not travelling to the concert is advised to prepare for delays in the Whitianga Waterways area as concertgoers make their way to and from the event.

Drop in at Mercury Bay Library, Thames Library, and Tairua Library these school holidays for our school holiday programme. We'll have challenges to try, crafts to make and games to play!
- All sessions are free of charge!
- No bookings are required for these sessions - drop in on the day.
- Sessions take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:30am-11:30am.

Justice of the Peace service desk
Looking for a Justice of the Peace? The JP service desk at Thames Library is here to help.
Duties performed by JPs include witnessing signatures on documents, certifying copies of documents, and completing declarations (including statutory declarations), affidavits or affirmations. Stop by any time between 12.30pm and 2.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays - there's no need to book.
