Apply for a Building Consent

Save time and money with self-service building consent applications. Our new building consents online system allows you to submit, manage and track applications from anywhere, at any time.

From 18th June 2018 submitting a building consent application will be fast, convenient and easy to use because all building consent applications at Thames-Coromandel District Council will be lodged and processed online. 

What applications can you apply for online?

  • PIM only (Project Information Memorandum)
  • Building consent (with or without PIM)
  • Amendment to a building consent
  • Code Compliance Certificate
  • Certificate of Acceptance
  • Exemption from the need for a building consent
  • Multiproof building consent

We are still developing online solutions for the following applications, so in the meantime please print and complete a paper application.  You can either drop off at one of our Council offices or post to Thames-Coromandel District Council, Private Bag 1001, Thames, 3540:

Before you begin

A few simple preparation checks will ensure you can quickly and easily submit your application:

  • verify details of the property (including checking hazards map and WRC Coastal Indudation tool here)
  • know the owner as listed on the certificate of title or be the authorised agent
  • required documents are in PDF format and do not exceed 1G in size
  • large sized documents are able to bookmarked
  • prepare a succinct, accurate description for your project (e.g. 'new single storey three-bedroom dwelling').

NOTE: To avoid any unnecessary delays, if your project involves building near or over a public pipe, you will need approval prior to submitting your building application.  For further information click here.

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an email confirming the sucessful submission.

Large Project?

Do you have a large project that involves multiple departments such as Planning, Building, Infrastructure, Health, Liquor Licensing?  Call our customer services team on 07 868 0200 to arrange a Pre-application meeting so all departments involved can meet with you to discuss specific legislative and council requirements that may affect your project.

Fees

You will still need to pay a deposit and this can be done by internet banking makng sure the reference includes the applicant name and either 'Building Consent deposit' or 'ABA deposit'.  You can pay the deposit upfront or wait for an invoice from us.  Details of how to pay via internet banking can be located on our Internet Banking Payments page.

The building consent 'clock' starts when we receive a complete application and we receive confirmation the deposit has been paid.
