Apply for Code Compliance Certificate
When the building work is finished you or your agent must apply online for your Code Compliance Certificate (CCC). Don't forget to upload all of your documents. It is the owners’ responsibility to include all the Record of Works (ROW) from licensed building practitioners.
A CCC is issued when we are satisfied the completed building work complies with the building consent. It provides an assurance to both you and future owners that the building work was done to the appropriate standards.
Further information about Code Compliance Certificates can be found on the Build Waikato website.
CCC fees
Your CCC fee is included in your building consent invoice, however if more inspections were required than originally anticipated there may be additional fees to pay. You will be invoiced for any additional fees. These will not be calculated until after your final inspection, but will need to be paid prior to issue of CCC.
Any outstanding development contributions will also need to be paid prior to issue of CCC.
Details of how to pay can be located on your invoice and on our Payment Methods page.
Benefits of obtaining CCC
There is considerable emphasis on getting your CCC under the Building Act 2004. As per Section 93 of the Building Act 2004, If you don't apply for CCC within 2 years from the date which the building consent was granted, the council has 20-working days to decide whether to issue CCC or not. CCC can be refused if the Council is not satisfied that compliance with the consented documents has been achieved.
There are several advantages to obtaining CCC including:
- Not having CCC can be a major obstacle when you wish to sell.
- You won’t have “peace of mind” until achieved.
- Your household insurance may be affected.
Timeframes for processing CCC applications
Upon receipt of an application for a code compliance certificate, the Council has 20 working days to issue your CCC if they are satisfied that the completed work complies with the consent documentation.
If required documentation is missing, the clock will stop, and a request for information (RFI) is made. Once all information is received and accepted the clock will be re-started.
When you receive your CCC, this is the end of the process.
For more information on the CCC Application process, including the RFI process, please see Build Waikato.
