Water connections
The following applies to new connections to Council mains.
Veolia Water Ltd (Veolia) is the contractor responsible for the operation and maintenance of our water and wastewater services.
The applications for service connections are processed by our Customer Services team - 07 868 0200 or customer.services@tcdc.govt.nz
Council approved contractors only
Veolia is the only contractor permitted to undertake connections to our Council's water infrastructure, however a 'Council Approved Utilities Contractor' may undertake wastewater or stormwater connections. There is a requirement for Veolia to inspect each connection and sign off the as-built drawing.
Our Approved Utilities Contractor List is available here.
An inspection fee of $161.98 (incl. GST) will apply for a wastewater and stormwater connection, of which a contractor undertakes the work. Please note that subsequent inspections will be charged at $95.00 (incl. GST) per inspection.
A non-refundable application fee of $156.75 (incl. GST) will apply to each application. It is expected that all water connections, whether standard or non-standard, will be completed within 7 working days following receipt of payment.
Water Connections to Council Mains
A standard water connection is defined as one of the following options:
A |
20mm connection up to 5m without meter, in grass berm. No footpath, driveway or road crossing |
$778.53 |
B |
20mm connection up to 5m with meter, in grass berm. No footpath, driveway or road crossing |
$940.50 |
C |
20mm connection up to 5m without meter, in concrete footpath |
$1071.12 |
D |
20mm connection up to 5m with meter, in concrete footpath |
$1217.43 |
For options not covered by Options A - D, our Customer Services team will request a quotation from Veolia for this work, and the applicant will be required to pay the full cost of the connection.
Wastewater and Stormwater Connections
For a wastewater or stormwater connection, the applicant must submit to us a quote for the connection from a TCDC Approved Utilities Contractor. Payment based on the quotation and the inspection and application fee must also be paid at that time.
Our Customer Services team will send through an instruction to the approved contractor to proceed with the work. Following completion of the work, our Asset Data Team must receive the as-built drawings before payment is made to the approved contractor. The as-built information is then entered into our GIS system.
Connections to Developer Installed Laterals
Where a developer or subdivider has been required to install boundary connection points, the above connection fees are not applicable.
Where water meters are required (Thames, Coromandel and Pauanui), Customer Services will request a quote from Veolia and the applicant will be required to pay the full cost, plus administration fee of $150.00 (incl. GST).
Maintaining your Service Connection
- Know where your connection point is
- Do not bury your cover - keep it exposed for servicing.
- Do not plant trees or shrubs any closer than 2 meters from the connection point
- Do not lay concrete paths or driveways over your connection point.
Following these simple guidelines will enable minimal disturbance to your property.
Neighbours Consent
In all situations where adjoining properties need to be entered and/or traversed to provide a service connection, a written consent for access and reinstatement liability is required from all affected property owners.
Connections through neighbouring properties require easements, which are the responsibility of the applicant/owner.
