On this page we will share relevant updates regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) for our Thames-Coromandel District.

Council Services under Alert Level 2:

Customer service desks:

  • Thames - Open with a limited service, one-in one-out entry. The office hours are 8:30am-4:30pm. The AA customer desk and Council receipting desk only will be open. One customer for each service will be in the office at a time. Please maintain physical distancing if you’re queueing outside and please be patient. AA has a booking system available from Thursday 14 May via their website. This will allow customers to book an appointment and help us manage queues on site.
  • Coromandel Town, Whitianga and Whangamata service desks open. All offices will have a contact tracing register all visitors entering the building must complete. Perspex screens will be in place for customer and staff protection.

Kerbside rubbish & recycling collections: Back to normal full service with blue Council rubbish bags collected weekly. Don't put rubbish bags in wheelie bins any more. Glass in Council recycling crates and paper, cardboard, tins and plastic types 1 & 2 in wheelie bins are collected fortnightly. Schedules: tcdc.govt.nz/kerbside

Refuse Transfer Stations: Are open to their normal full service. There may be delays to get in due to physical distancing requirements. Hours and locations: tcdc.govt.nz/rts

Boat ramps & wharves: Open.

Car parks: Open for normal use.

Thames Centennial Pool: Will reopen at 6am on Monday 18 May. Alert Level 2 operating procedures and processes will be provided on our website as soon as they are finalised: tcdc.govt.nz/swim

District Libraries: Book drops are open. Borrowing is via click and collect or call and collect, with limited home delivery. More information: tcdc.govt.nz/libraries or call Thames Library 07 868 6616. Tairua Library 07 864 7960. Mercury Bay Library 07 866 4776.

Halls: We are working towards opening these and will start to take bookings soon, but with restrictions on size of bookings. tcdc.govt.nz/halls

Thames War Memorial Civic Centre: Will reopen to the public on 25 May. tcdc.govt.nz/civiccentre

Pauanui Hub Meeting Room: Will reopen from 14 May. tcdc.govt.nz/pauanuihub

Jack McLean Community Recreation Centre, Thames: We are working with Thames High School on when normal service can resume. tcdc.govt.nz/thamesgym

Playgrounds: Fencing will be removed.

Public toilets: Are being reopened as quickly as possible. tcdc.govt.nz/publictoilets

Drinking fountains & showers: Water remains turned off.

BBQs: Remain off.

Thames Connector Bus Service: Is operating on demand. Call them on 021 250 6241 to book.
