Visitor Information Centres on the Coromandel The Coromandel Peninsula has six Visitor Information Centres where tourists, prospective and permanent residents can get all the information they need to make their stay or life on the Coromandel full of adventure, activities, local cuisine and fun. Two of these centre are iSITE accredited (Thames and Whitianga). The Visitor Information Centres can be found in Coromandel Town, Thames, Whitianga, Whangamata, Pauanui and Tairua. There is also a Department of Conservation visitor centre in the Kauaeranga Valley about 15km from Thames. i-SITE and Visitor Information Centre hours (As at August 2020) All our visitor centres are open, with the following hours: Thames i-SITE: Monday to Friday 9am – 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 9.30am - 1pm Whitianga i-SITE: Monday to Sunday 9am – 5pm Coromandel Town Visitor Centre: 7 days a week, 10am-3:00pm. Tairua Information Centre: Monday-Friday 9:30am - 4pm. Saturday 10am-1pm. Sunday – closed. Pauanui Information Centre: Monday – Saturday 9:30am-4pm. Sunday – 10am-4pm. Whangamata Information Centre: Monday – closed. Tuesday – Sunday 9am – 2pm. Destination Coromandel The Council funds an organisation called Destination Coromandel, which is our very own Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO), which has the responsibility of marketing the Coromandel to the world.
