Working for Council

Our District truly has something for everyone

The contrasting landscape is matched only by the diversity of our communities. From the potters and artists of Coromandel Town, to the urban holiday makers of Pauanui. Thames, with its rich mining history and heritage sites, sits comfortably next to rural farming communities.

And if you miss the bright lights and big city, we are just over an hour away from the three major cities of Auckland, Hamilton, and Tauranga.

For more information about our district see our Visiting the Peninsula section.

Pay and Performance

We want to attract and retain high caliber staff that have the ability to achieve and exceed expectations. We offer competitive rates of pay based on a pay and performance system which takes into consideration market rates of pay, internal relativities, job complexity, and individual performance and contribution.

Professional Development

We encourage a learning environment and will support your professional development.  We also provide internal training to encourage professional development across the organization.

Induction into the Organisation

Getting you started on the right foot is important to us and we have a comprehensive induction process in place to make your arrival as stress free and informative as possible.

Work/Life Balance

We encourage our staff to maintain a healthy balance between work, family, social, and recreational commitments.

Many of our staff have made the move to the Coromandel specifically because they see it as a great place to raise their families and school age children are well catered for. There are a number of primary and secondary schools, including Catholic schools, throughout the district.

Sport is also part and parcel of life on the Peninsula. Rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, squash, tennis, golf, lawn bowls, and many more traditional sports are catered for. There is also a strong focus on water sports like yachting, kayaking, fishing, and surfing.

We have a very active social club that organise events throughout the year.  Some examples of this are:

  • A mid-winter social
  • Xmas social for staff
  • Children's Xmas party at the Pool
  • Mussel barge fishing trips
  • Business House squash, and tennis competitions
  • Business House Bowls competitions
  • Inter-council sporting competitions

What we love about living on the Coromandel

We challenge you to find a more beautiful and diverse landscape than here on the Coromandel Peninsula.
