Purpose of the Economic Development Committee

The Economic Development Committee ensures Council's Economic Development Strategy is implemented and opportunities and risks to Council and other organisations are identified. This is done by overseeing any investment decisions Council is making to ensure economic outcomes are achieved in line with the six major strategic directives of the Economic Development Strategy and its five-year strategic programme of work.

The committee also ensures Council complies with legislative requirements and Council policy. It also raises awareness of potential economic opportunities which are developed collaboratively with communities and businesses, including iwi and government agencies.

This committee ensures it's as easy as possible (within Council statutory and policy requirements) for economic opportunities to be achieved and consideration is given to alternative opportunities to achieve the major strategic directives of the economic development strategy.
