Click to expand (Above: A future vision for a Thames Sport Precinct) There is the potential to develop a sports precinct alongside the proposed Thames replacement pool, at the south end of Thames Airfield, on Council-owned land that is protected from flooding/inundation. Budget for the replacement pool is in our Council's draft Long Term Plan (LTP) 2021-2031. Consultation on the LTP proposals closes at 4pm on Monday 12 April. As the current sports facilities at Rhodes Park are sited in the Kauaeranga River spillway, this site is subject to periodic flooding and can not be further developed. The proposed new pool site is large enough to be developed as a sports precinct in the future, hosting the sporting facilities that are currently at Rhodes Park. A future vision for the site is shown above and any future development would require external funding. A future sports precinct is included in the 'nice to have' project list in our LTP - have your say now. Find out more about the Thames replacement pool here.
