Latest update: Around 130 people attended the public meeting at the Pauanui Club at the start of April which was a great turnout and shows how much the grassed reserve and dunes are valued. The majority of participants felt that the proposed hoggin path and dune zone extension are not appropriate. Attendants wanted Council to continue with current dune management and to significantly improve reserve maintenance. Several options will now be considered and taken back to the Tairua-Pauanui Community Board for discussion and approval on how the area is managed. Concept: The proposed walkway and dune zone extension would run along the coastal reserve fronting properties 17 to 23 Bonanza Place and 18 to 26 Champion Place. The proposal includes planting and encourages people to stay on the track to protect the dunes and hope other areas will see the benefit of this future proofing work. The detailed presentation to the Tairua-Pauanui Community Board including the projected budget costs can be viewed here. Click here to view the full concept details.
