COVID-19 was no match for the ANZAC spirit last year, when our communities across the Coromandel Peninsula and the Hauraki Plains commemorated ANZAC Day - Rā Maumahara ki nga hoia o Aotearoa me Ahitereiria in lockdown. Our Poppies in the Park event became Poppies in Your Yard, as people took time together to craft and create poppies to display outside their houses and share virtually with us on Facebook.
This year, in Alert Level 1, we'll be able to commemorate ANZAC Day with a poppy display, as we had intended last year. Help us commemorate Anzac Day by making a poppy to display around our libraries.
At Mercury Bay Library, anyone is welcome to make poppies and put them in our local Soldiers' Memorial Park. They can be all sizes and made of any materials—for some ideas please check out Thames Coromandel District Libraries' Facebook page.
At Thames Library, we will have a table of activities for people to make their own poppy from 12th April - come in and help us fill the library with poppies.
