My name is Aroha Pukapuka (love books) and I've just arrived at the Thames-Coromandel Whare Pukapuka (libraries) to help celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week 2017, which runs from 11th-16th of September.
The theme for this year is Kia ora te reo Māori, which not only picks up our national greeting but means literally, ‘Let the Māori Language live’.
For us here at the whare pukapuka (library), we've been planning to bring you lots of fun and excitement while also picking up some new words and phrases of te reo Māori (The Māori Language).
During the week there will be a quiz for pakeke (adults) who wish to test their mōhio (knowledge), and a hunt and find quiz for tamariki (kids) too. Every entry handed in to the front desk could win you something sweet! Other special events during the wiki (week) are for the nohinohi (toddlers) we'll be having a special Toddler Time at Thames Library on Thursday 14th September 9.30-10am, with a very special guest.
We will also be showcasing some wonderful resources for everyone to discover and ākona (learn), including pukapuka (books) and websites.
I'll be bringing you words or phrases for every rā (day) of the wiki (week) on Facebook and in the whare pukapuka (library). So join us at the library for lots of pārekareka! (fun!).
