Research into the Crown Minerals database and the files from a local geologist have raised further questions about natural background levels of arsenic that need answering before any response strategy for Moanataiari can be developed.

Our research has shown us that in the hills around Thames and up the coast, arsenic has been found in concentrations in the hundreds and in some cases, in the thousands of parts per million (at surface).

Testing of individual properties at Moanataiari will continue as planned from January 2012, while an investigation is launched at the same time to establish meaningful and scientifically-backed natural background levels.
