New Kopu Bridge slipway road open - traffic now able to divert into Kopu

The slipway road into Kopu from the new Kopu Bridge is finished, just in time for the Christmas rush.

Council and NZTA had agreed to a variation in the contract, two weeks ago, to ensure the road would be opened in time for Christmas, after it came to the Council's attention that the slipway might not be finished until February.

"Kopu businesses need that traffic, so we initiated a deal with NZTA as soon as we knew about the delay" said Mayor Glenn Leach. "The variation cost $12,000 and we are funding only 50% of it; it's money well spent to get that traffic going through Kopu to keep businesses humming down there."
