TVNZ News Story on Coromandel Great Walks Project 07 January 2013 Our Mayor Glenn Leach's vision for a Coromandel-wide walkway is currently being drafted with the hope it can be marketed as the 10th Great Walkway of NZ. The project was the focus of a 6pm TVNZ ONE News story that went to air on Sunday 6th January. To view the news story take a look here. The Council has already met with stakeholders including DOC and Coastal Walkways and are now in the early stages of outlining a feasibility study and business plan. Whangamata Area Manager Garry Towler - who is heading up the project - says the next stage is looking at what routes could be developed in the first phase and consulting with landowners, iwi and other special interest groups. "We have identified most of the route along the whole of the eastern Coromandel but we'd also still like to hear from local groups involved in track construction or maintenance so I can join some more dots," says Mr Towler.
