Mangrove submitters to be heard in Thames

23 February 2018

Parliament’s Governance and Administration select committee will travel to Thames to hear submissions on the Mangrove Management Bill being sponsored by Coromandel MP Scott Simpson.

The committee has accepted Mr Simpson's invitation to visit Thames to hear from submitters directly and in person.”

The committee will sit in Thames on Friday, 16 March 2018.

“This is an important local initiative aimed at resolving the issue of mangrove management by allowing Thames Coromandel and Hauraki District Councils to formulate their own management plans without involving the Waikato Regional Council," says Mr Simpson.

The Bill empowers our Council and Hauraki District Council to prepare a mangrove management plan for the coastal area of their districts to achieve and maintain acceptable levels of mangrove vegetation in order to restore, protect, and enhance any amenity values or ecosystems of the coastal area.

Submissions on the bill close at 5pm today (Friday, 23 February 2018). Click here for more info.
