What's on in the Coromandel?

The Coromandel has been fortunate to escape the wrath of ex-tropical cyclone Gita this week and the weather for this weekend is looking promising. With sunshine forcast for the entire district the Cathedral Cove Snorkel Day will be going ahead, if you have ever wanted to get up close and personal with snapper, eagle rays and nudibranchs make sure you bring the whole family along to this fantastic free day out. Don't forget to fill in our own line survey below to be in the draw to win a $500 petrol voucher.

Mercury Bay Art Escape

3 - 4 March and 10 and 11 March 2018

These Open Studio weekends are held every year over the first two weekends in March and draw many art loving visitors to the beautiful coastal area of Mercury Bay, encompassing the areas of Hikuai, Tairua, Hahei, Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach, Whenuakite, Coroglen, Whitianga and Kuaotunu, the art studios are open from 10am until 4pm.

Mercury Bay Art Escape Artists and Art Groups present a wide range of art and craft media, including woodwork, pottery, sculpture, hand forged knives, lamp-worked glasswork, flax weaving, mosaics, painting, photography, printmaking and much more.

Gala Opening Night 2018

The Gala Opening of the Mercury Bay Art Escape Showcase Exhibition with guest speaker T J McNamara – the NZ Herald Art Reviewer. TJ's talk is titled 'Light and the Warm Dark - memorable images of 50 years of reviewing'.

The gala events includes a complimentary glass of Tohu wine, nibbles and a live performace by Alan Rhodes band.

It is the opening preview of the Mercury Bay Art Escape Member's Showcase exhibition.

The Whitianga Sea Scouts are running a bike wash and sausage sizzle, there will be food, craft stalls and Live Music.
