Colville rubbish compactor removed for repairs after vandalism 01 February 2019 Our portable rubbish compactor at the norther end of Colville Road has been badly vandalised and is out of action until it can be repaired at the workshop in Thames. The compactor's batteries were taken, and the coin slot and solar panels were damaged. Our spare compactor is unavailable to take its place so we're asking northern Coromandel residents and visitors with rubbish to dispose of to please take it to the Coromandel Town Refuse Transfer Station (RTS) at 525 Hauraki Rd. Rubbish in blue, pre-paid Council rubbish bags and recycling can be left free of charge at any of our seven transfer stations. The Coromandel Town RTS is open until 24 February to these hours: Monday - Friday: 11am - 4:30pm Saturday: 10:30am - 5:30pm Sunday & Public Holidays: 10:30am - 6:30pm From 25 February, the hours are: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Closed Tuesday, Thursday: 11am - 4:30pm Saturday, Sunday, Public Holidays: 11am - 5:30pm Hours and locations of our other RTSs are on our website. We have three other portable rubbish compactors located at: Kuaotunu Boat Ramp – also known as Quarry Point Boat Ramp. SH25 opposite 88 Kuaotunu-Wharekaho Rd. Opoutere - beside the Opoutere Community Hall at the corner of SH25 and Opoutere Rd. Old Coroglen Saleyard site – immediately south of the SH25 bridge over the Waiwawa River. 1909 SH25 Tairua-Whitianga Rd, near the junction with the Tapu-Coroglen Rd. The compactors are solar powered and coin operated ($2 coin only per bag). Any rubbish bag approximately the size of our official blue Council bags can be placed in the compactor's chute, but any bag can be used. The compactors can be damaged through misuse and vandalism so please take care when using them. If you have any issues with the compactors or need to dispose of any liquid or hazardous waste, please visit the nearest RTS. Kerbside rubbish and recycling collections over Waitangi Day A reminder that there is no Kerbside rubbish and recycling collection on the Waitangi Day public holiday next week - 6 February. After Waitangi Day collections will be a day later, except the Saturday ones, which remain the same. And next week is the last week of our extra summer Kerbside collections around the district. We revert to our non-summer Kerbside schedule on Monday 11 February. Check the schedule for your area on our website at www.tcdc.govt.nz/kerbside. Please remember to put your blue Council rubbish bag, wheelie bin for non-glass recycling and crate for glass recycling on the kerbside by the road the morning of the scheduled collection day. Please don't hang rubbish bags from trees or poles or leave in cages. If pests ripping open bags and spilling rubbish are a concern in your area, you can purchase a gullinator - a sturdy mesh sac with a hoop at one end that sits over a rubbish bag - from our Council offices for $15. If there is spilled rubbish in your area, please call our Customer Services team on 07 868 0200 and we'll arrange for it to be cleaned up. If you miss your rubbish collection or leave town before collection day, blue bags and recycling can be dropped off at one of our RTS free of charge. RTS locations and hours are at www.tcdc.govt.nz/rts. Several of our RTS have 24/7 after-hours drop-off facilities and as mentioned above we also have the portable rubbish compactors. www.tcdc.govt.nz/rubbishcompactors.
