What's on in the Coromandel

You won’t be bored this weekend as anything goes this Friday at Lukes Kitchen, Kuaotunu, with Sonic Delusion’s catchy Latin-infused, pop-laced "funky electroacoustic folk" tunes playing, or a night of comedy at The Lincoln, Whangamata.

Keep the kids entertained with New Zealand’s very own circus visiting Thames, Whitianga and Whangamata later this month.

Peak to Peak Ultra Race 2019 

Saturday 12 January, Tairua Surf Life Saving Club, 38 Paku Drive.

The Peak to Peak ultra race is back for 2019. This annual event is an endurance race looking to be bigger and better this year. 2019 will see a similar course to previous years up the two main peaks of Tairua and Pauanui.

Leadfoot Festival  

2 and 3 February 

The Leadfoot Festival is a unique weekend bringing together a mix of classic cars, vintage motorcycles and motorsport legends. Tickets are offered to the general public with an invitation to Rod and Shelly Millen’s private grounds at Leadfoot Ranch. The 150 acre, ocean-front estate in Hahei on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula features a long driveway that winds through the property designed to be the perfect hill climb.

Tuia 250 Encounters

In 2019, New Zealand will mark 250 years since the first meetings between Māori and Europeans during James Cook and the Endeavour's 1769 voyage to Aotearoa New Zealand. A national commemoration, Tuia – Encounters 250, will acknowledge this pivotal moment in our nation’s history as well as the exceptional feats of Pacific voyagers who reached and settled in Aotearoa many years earlier.

Farmers Markets

Thames Market - Every Saturday 8am - 12noon - Pollen Street, Grahamstown. Head down to the Thames Market this weekend. Don't forget to bring your own bag, basket or box to the Thames Market, plastic carry bags are no longer allowed.

Tairua Market - The first Saturday of every month, you will find a collection of stalls and produce right by the harbour next to the one-lane bridge on the Tairua Main Road from 9am -1pm.

Coromandel Town Homegrown Community Market - Every Friday morning on Wharf Road beside the BNZ bank you will find an array of local, homegrown produce and crafts for sale. 

Whangamata Sunday Market  - Held in the heart of the Whangamata township in the Council carpark on Port Rd from 9am - 1pm, selling goods from arts and crafts to produce. See here for further details.

Coroglen Market. Every Sunday 9am-1pm. Coroglen Hall

 Bring whatever you're working on to the Carnegie Room at Thames Library or come along to get started. Everyone is welcome between 10am and 12pm every Tuesday and tea and coffee is provided. The knitting group will take a short break over Christmas.

Book Clubs

Meet other book lovers and share what you’re reading. This is the ideal place to pick up some tasty new titles. Meeting in the Carnegie Room at Thames Library, at 10:30 on the first Friday of every month 

Book Club will take a break in January and resume February.
