Win a 'food for your soul' weekend on the Coromandel

18 June 2018

We're offering food lovers the chance to win a dream food tour of The Coromandel, taking in some of our finest foods from the land and sea over a custom-made weekend.

The competition is running as part of our Council's support for the Coromandel Food Collective at the Food Show in Auckland next month, and is in partnership with Destination Coromandel.

To enter, simply sign up to Destination Coromandel's online newsletter, which you can do here:

Alternatively, you can enter by visiting the Coromandel Food Collective stand at the Auckland Food Show between July 26 and 29 at the ASB Showgrounds.

Up-for-grabs is a two-night food tour that takes two people north from Thames to Coromandel Town and Colville and back down the Peninsula's eastern coast, visiting some of best-known places to eat.

Stops include the Coromandel Oyster Co for fresh Pacific oyster tasting, dinner and cocktails at the Star and Garter Hotel, and opportunities to stock-up on artisan goodies from Colville's Hereford 'n' a Pickle deli, Castle Rock Café near the beautiful Whangapoua Beach and local markets along the way.

Two nights' accommodation is provided at the Karamana Homestead stables cottage - one of New Zealand's oldest homesteads in a rural setting just a short walk from Coromandel Town.

During the weekend, winners will also enjoy some of The Coromandel's most popular tourist activities:

Thames-Coromandel District Council Mayor Sandra Goudie says food is at the heart of The Coromandel economy.

"This competition gives some lucky couple the chance to experience some of the best parts of our region and where we create 'food for the soul," Mayor Sandra says.

Destination Coromandel general manager Hadley Dryden says The Coromandel is an increasingly popular destination for food lovers and some of the best, home-grown food in the country will be offered on this weekend tour.

The competition closes at midnight on Sunday, July 29, 2018 and the winner will be drawn on July 30.
