New playground on the way at Long Bay, Coromandel Town. 18 March 2019 A brand new playground is on the way for Long Bay in Coromandel Town for the community to enjoy. (Playground design pictured above) As part of our Council's renewal programme, the existing playground at the site will be replaced entirely. "We've received three expressions of interest to create the new playground and assessed all of these proposals for cost effectiveness before choosing to work with the company, Playground Creations whom provided the best value for the budget provided," says Derek Thompson our Parks and Reserves Manager. The playground is limited in size and shape, but sits in an iconic location adjacent to the Long Bay Motor Camp at 3200 Long Bay Road Coromandel Town. The main features of the new playground are sand safety surfacing and a thatched roof to link it with its beach location. It also features a circular confidence course, a basket swing and a sand digger. "The selected design was also checked with local stakeholders, so we could be confident playground would meet the needs and the wants of the community," says Mr Thompson. The existing playground will be removed early next week and then its replacement will start to be built. The new playground will take around two weeks to complete.
