Whitianga Refuse Transfer Station now open to commercial rubbish 28 March 2019 Temporary measures have now been put in place for all users to dispose of their rubbish at the Whitianga Refuse Transfer Station and meanwhile arrangements are being made to repair the damage to the transfer station's refuse pit's concrete floor. (Photo, above and bottom: Damage to the rubbish pit at Whitianga RTS forced its closure at short notice on Monday afternoon) We had to close the refuse pit at short notice on Monday afternoon after part of its concrete floor subsided. A staff member is on hand at the RTS to direct commercial users to a tip-off point and other users to open-top bins to dispose of domestic rubbish. The refuse pit remains closed while the damage to its concrete floor and options to repair it are investigated. The Whitianga RTS is open as usual to leave recycling, green waste and scrap metal. Tairua RTS is now open to extended hours of 9am to 4pm from Monday to Friday. Its weekend hours remain 10am to 5:30pm. We apologise for the inconvenience the closure of the refuse pit has caused and thank you for your continued patience and support.
