Also if you purchase a 5-card concession you get a discount on your delivery order. Mouth-watering options on the menu this week's options include a roast chicken, streaky bacon and salad gourmet sandwich, a French fig mince and cheese pie, creamy chicken and mushroom penne pasta, mac and cheese or the Asian chicken noodle salad.

Everything is made and prepared on site by the French Fig team, who also provide a catering service and cakes for any occasion.

And if you decide you're rather come in and dine or just grab a tea or coffee they would love to see you. That also gives you a chance to browse the French-inspired homeware and giftware we also sell, from scented candles and soaps to French cutlery, dishes and costume jewellery.

The Calder family bought the French Fig cafe in June last year as an opportunity to work together..

About the town centre construction they say that they are happy it's happening during the off-peak season. During summer the French Fig employees up to 15 staff, whereas in the autumn and winter months that halves.

"That's also reflected in our customer numbers," say the Calders "We do see numbers fall off at this time of year. But we still get lots of tourists - both domestic and international - and our local regulars still stop in."

Take one elderly gentleman who arrives religiously every morning for his coffee, and a sausage for his dog. "We love catching up with all our regulars and hearing about what's going on with them."

The French Fig is also providing its two allocated car parks on the service lane behind Albert St to customers wanting to stop in to grab a takeaway coffee, or have accessibility issues and need to park close by. There is also one accessibility car park at this back entrance too.

To make a reservation, order a lunch delivery or book in for catering call the French Fig on 07 866 4760 text on 021 088 91425 or go to their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/The-French-Fig-604256656288527/. Opening hours 7am - 3pm seven days a week.

Works going on this week.

We're chlorinating the new potable water service fabrication going in on both sides of Albert St so we can then connect to the existing water network in early May.

We're continuing excavation and installation of 675mm storm water line from Taylors Mistake towards Blacksmith Lane.

We're preparing to put kerbing on the west and east sides of Albert Street and excavating the existing pavement to a new design subgrade on the eastern side, which will include placement of geotextile fabric.

We're starting to place and form the new road sub-base layer and continuing with the installation of Chorus 50mm fibreducting. (This does not include installing the actual fibre, which Chorus will have to do).

We’ve put up additional signage around the town to let people know about getting access to businesses that are open within the affected road closure site.

The Blacksmith Lane Toilets have been repaired and are open.

And we've fielded a few more queries in the past week about street lighting and power outages. This is not related to the town centre upgrade and Powerco has been notified and have told us this is due to some circuit faults that they are still fixing. The lights along The Esplanade were fixed last Friday and are now working.
