Civic Style part of the Whitianga Town Centre upgrade 11 September 2018 After a quick visit to Civic Video 18 months ago to purchase a few DVD's, Greg Stevens and Lisa Coster ended up buying the business. Being one of the few remaining DVD stores in the country, Greg and Lisa had always known they would need to diversify, while keeping the DVD business alive for locals and visitors alike to the Mercury Bay area. "After a boys weekend golfing, I fell in love with the place. After purchasing a home in Whitianga and communting every weekend while paying high rent in Auckland, it was a no brainer for us both to move here fulltime," says Greg. Golf and fishing form a big part of both Lisa and Greg's love of Whitianga, along with being part of the Mercury Bay Club."Working six days a week, we work hard to make sure we also take time for ourselves, that's why we chose to live in the beautiful part of the country," says Greg. Branching out with the business and opening Civic Style and Homewares has been a great success and really starting to take off. "We're trying to something different at a very good price. With the products in store, Lisa is getting lots of positive compliments on her buying choices," says Greg. The couple employ one other staff member to help them in-store and want to keep the DVD business going strong, for those loyal customers that have reception issues on the outskirts of town, or holiday makers, who only have the DVD and Freeview setup. When asked about the town centre upgrade Greg says there's been an impact to business with the loss of car parking outside the store. "I totally understand the 70-year-old below ground infrastructure of pipes needed to be upgraded, but duration that the road has been closed in our section of construction works has impacted our passer-by traffic, but we just have to get through," adds Greg. Let's keep our DVD store going as one of the last 16 DVD stores in the country and also check out some of the wonderful homewares on offer instore at Civic Style and Homewares. Check them them out on the Web or pop on in to 65 Albert Street.
