Last call for local arts groups and project funding

26 September 2018

There is still time to get a helping hand for your arts group or creative project through the Creative Communities Scheme.

Applications close this Friday 28 September for funding for projects that will take place between 30 September 2018 and 30 September 2019.

In previous funding rounds, between $10,000 and $20,000 has been disbursed. Successful applicants from this year's earlier funding round can be viewed here.

The Creative Coromandel - He Mana Toi Moehau Trust Board, made up of representatives from across the Coromandel, administers the Creative Communities Scheme funds on behalf of Creative New Zealand.

Funding is awarded to projects rather than the people undertaking the project. Applications need to meet one or more of the following criteria to be eligible for the funding:

  • Broad community involvement - The project will create opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts activities.
  • Diversity - The project will support the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity.
  • Young people - The project will enable and encourage young people (under 18 years) to engage with and actively participate in the arts.

The Board were appreciative of the effort that applicants in the last round had made and noted the following general comments for this round of applicants:

  • Provide dates for events.
  • Provide the name of the tutor and a briefing on each one.
  • Remember the timing of the projects e.g. projects that start before the date of the funding round cannot be considered.
  • Advise if the project will still go ahead if a portion of the funding request is granted.
  • Cross-check any budget figures that are provided.
  • Consider the eligibility criteria as set out in the applicants guide.
  • Please do not be confined by the space provided for each question in the application form. Provide as much detail as possible about your event even if it means you supply extra pages with the application.
