Coromandel Town improvement works back in action 11 September 2019 With a wet start to the week, our Coromandel Town improvement work was slightly delayed. We’re back in action today with our contractors, Downers, working on locating underground services, starting at the Wharf Road end of town. Downers have set up their site at 145 Wharf Road and will be working in sections to minimise the disruption to businesses, traffic and the public, with three crews working simultaneously to increase time and efficiency. Our weekly stakeholder meetings are at 9am every Wednesday. Our first stakeholder meeting was held at Umu Café this morning and the next one will be at Wharf Road Café on 18 September. "These stakeholder meetings will run for about half an hour and we’ll discuss the works that have been completed and the works coming up for the week-ahead,” says Matt Kofoed, Customer Liaison for Downers. “There is also an opportunity at the end for the public to raise any questions and iron out any issues." Matt Kofoed will be available to meet with anyone interested on the progress and answer any concerns during the construction process. You can also email Matt.Kofoed@infrastructurealliance.co.nz or phone: 0275409752 with any querries. You can also talk to our Council's Community Manager for Coromandel Town, Margaret Harrison - email@example.com or 07 868 0200. Umu Café pleased to see change Josie Fraser, owner of Umu Café for over 18 years, spends a lot of her time giving back to the Coromandel community. Mother of three boys, Josie plays a key role in the junior rugby club committee and swimming club committee. She also volunteers as a learn to swim teacher. "I love living in a small community and I enjoy the relaxed vibes that I get from this town," says Josie. "It’s definitely time for a change, and the changes to the road are well overdue. Although the construction works will cause a short-term inconvenience, it will be a great outcome at the end before the Christmas holidays," says Josie. Stop-in for coffee and a bite at Umu when visiting Coromandel Town. This is a relaxed café with a seasonal menu, which always includes fresh Coromandel mussel chowder, local seafood, prime meats, vegetarian options and special treats such as their delicious savoury muffins. Sit outdoors in the courtyard now that spring is in the air or cosy up inside with a hot pot or soup on those cooler spring days. Umu serves local Coromandel Town-brewed MK Brewing Co beer and Good George craft beer on tap. Check the Umu Café Facebook page for the latest menu and more information.
