Power outage in Coromandel Town on Sunday 01 October 2020 PowerCo has a planned outage on Sunday 4 October affecting 2,889 customers in Coromandel Town from approximately 9.30am - 11:30am. The power outage will allow crew to return a 66kV air break switch to service. During this time the Coromandel Town water treatment plant will be off. Our water services contractors Veolia, will aim to maximise reservoir levels before then, but please keep in mind the plant will not be producing any water so please use water carefully. The air break switch is a piece of equipment on overhead lines which provides an isolation point. Earlier this year it developed a fault and was removed. Replacement equipment has arrived and been fitted, and the planned outage will restore the switch back to the network. Reconnection of the switch is essential for the ongoing resilience and security of supply for the Whitianga and Coromandel areas, which is why the urgent planned outage is taking place. The outage will affect customers on the western side of the Coromandel peninsula, from Tapu to the top of the Peninsula and down to Kennedy Bay. The outage includes Coromandel Town which will be without power down to Mahakirau Road. We know there is never a convenient time for a power outage, and would like to thank you for your paitence.
