Phase Two of the Whitianga Town Centre Upgrade Begins

09 July 2018

With the safety fences around the town centre upgrade work moving down Albert Street as Phase Two begins, a whole new set of businesses are being affected - this week we're profiling Sue Marceau's The Style Makers fashion and accessories store.

We caught up with Sue previously, when her other Whitianga business, Mainly Casual, was affected by the Phase One work.

Phase Two of the town centre upgrade takes in Albert St from Hannan Road to Monk St and The Style Makers is in this section, at 31 Albert St. Work on this stretch is expected to be complete around mid-September.

All the businesses in the sections where work is taking place remain open. The footpaths are open and access to pedestrians is unobstructed.

"Style Makers has had a change of direction over the last seven years that I have owned it," says Sue. "We changed from Exquisite Boutique to The Style Makers over this time, as we wanted to change what was on offer and open ourselves up more to cater to all our lovely loyal customers," says Sue.

"Being in the fashion industry for over 24 years, we wanted to offer more options in style from sizes 10 to 22, along with some great fashion accessories, from scarves and jewelry, and based more around gifts for that special woman, so she can be spoiled or spoil herself," says Sue.

Sue has a rich history in Whitianga, with various links through family to fashion in the town. Operating and owning various businesses she employs lots of staff around the Coromandel.

"We have two fulltime staff in 'The Style Makers' store and while we are feeling the effects of the town centre upgrade and winter downturn, we know the town will eventually benefit moving forward," Sue says.

Sue holds some great established sponsorship links within the community with the Mercury Bay golf, rugby and squash clubs, while keeping busy with watching her son race in speedway events and the BMW racing series.

She'll have some exciting new labels coming out through spring and summer, like Lemon Tree, Stella Royal and Ping Pong, just to name a few. Checkout their Facebook page or come down to the warm welcoming environment of the shop in the town centre.

Sue and the team have some great savings in store now with their winter sale on.  So get on down and see what's hot this winter.
