Final opportunity for feedback on Thames’ Spatial Plan 18 August 2022 The final draft of the Thames and Surrounds Spatial Plan is now available for public review and comment. To review the final draft of the Spatial Plan, visit tcdc.govt.nz/yourthamestomorrow. The Plan is called “Your Thames, Tomorrow,” and sets out the long-term vision for how, why and where we want Thames and the surrounding areas to grow. It is an important umbrella project which brings together our efforts to accelerate housing growth for Thames with our critical Shoreline Management work that will help us adapt to the coastal inundation and erosion risks that our district is facing. Final comments from our communities will allow us to update the Plan before it goes to our Council for consideration and adoption in September. The Plan proposes increasing densities in some places, creating new greenfield development zones, and making sure there’s a good supply of commercial and industrial land to attract new businesses to the area and allow our existing businesses to thrive. The changes being considered will affect Thames township, Moanataiari, Kauaeranga Valley, Totara Valley, Kōpū, Matatoki and Puriri. While the Spatial Plan is not a statutory document, it will inform changes to the District Plan, infrastructure planning and investment decisions made by our Council. tcdc.govt.nz/yourthamestomorrow There is a link on the page to a survey to provide feedback along with direct contact details for the project lead.
