What's on in the Coromandel?

Summer has arrived early in the Coromandel this year with the Metservice predicting warmer than average temperatures and no rain for the next two weeks. This is great news for all of our event organisers in the district, especially those putting Christmas Parades which will start from next weekend.

Here is further information on parades near you;

Coromandel - Saturday 7 December, 3pm from Te Tiki Street to the Coromandel Area School field. The bulk of the roadway improvements to the Coromandel Town’s main street will be finished by the time Santa and his helpers to pay a visit on 7 December. Turn up on the day at Te Tiki Street by 2.30pm.

Matarangi - Sunday 22 December, 11am in the Matarangi Town Centre. For more information click here.

Thames - Friday 13 December, 5 - 9pm. Registration forms available from GBD and Harcourts. For more information contact Rachael Cheeseman by email.

Whangamata  - Saturday 7 December, 12pm on Port Road. Entry forms can be collected from Geoff March from the Lions Club, contact him on 021 025 72270.

Whitianga - Saturday 7 December, 12.30pm. The parade starts at Lyon Park Rugby Grounds, travels along Albert Street towards Buffalo Beach, along The Esplanade and finishes at Taylor's Mistake car park area. At the end of the parade the winning float will receive a prize. Entry forms are avaliable from the Informer's office at 14 Monk Street or at www.theinformer.co.nz. The Extravaganza Fair

The Extravaganza Fair is a family affair, it is a free entry, fun day out with something for everyone.

L.A.B with Mako Road and Soaked Oats

28 December, 6pm - 11pm at the Coroglen Tavern.

Recently named by Radio New Zealand as New Zealand’s Best Live Act, L.A.B. is gearing up for another massive summer period. These shows will be the first since the upcoming release of L.A.B’s third album in three years. Set for release in late-2019, the album continues to build on the momentum that has seen them become a favourite on the NZ festival circuit.

This show at the legendary Coroglen Tavern will see L.A.B. performing alongside Mako Road and Soaked Oats, two acts who have also seen sold out audiences across Australia and NZ through 2019.

Tuesday 31 December

Joes Farm is a special place, a quiet river valley situated just minutes away from the beach, surrounded by rolling hills and big skies.  It sits perfectly as a rural gateway to the coast, a short shuttle ride away is one of the country's most popular surf beaches,  Whangamata.  Farm owner Jo Adams has opened the farm gates to allow recreational access to the 500 plus acres providing an exciting new addition to New Zealand greenfield venues.

Katchafire

Sticky Fingers

The Coroglen Tavern has decided to tee up again this summer with the timeless legends - Sticky Fingers. The "Yours To Keep Tour" is a seven-date tour travelling all over New Zealand which is bound to keep you grooving this summer.

Farm Dance

Dylan Stewart - Conscious Rambling

Award-winning comedian Dylan Stewart brings his new show Conscious Ramblings to Coromandel. 

This is not a show for the PC brigade, best to leave the kids at home.

Whitianga Summer Concert


The last stop on the Greenstone Entertainment 2020 Summer Concert Tour visits Whitianga with music spanning the decades, from the late 1960's through to the early 2000's.  This event sold out in record time but for those that were lucky enough to get a ticket, click here for more information.

The Leadfoot Festival

8 and 9 February 2020

A unique weekend on the New Zealand and international calendar that brings together a unique mix of classic cars, vintage motorcycles and motorsport legends. New Zealand racing legend, Rod Millen, opens his private grounds at the Leadfoot Ranch to host more than 150 champion and competitive race participants.

Thames Market - Every Saturday 8am - 12noon - Pollen Street, Grahamstown. Head down to the Thames Market this weekend. Don't forget to bring your own bag, basket or box to the Thames Market, plastic carry bags are not available.

Tairua Market - The first Saturday of every month, you will find a collection of stalls and produce right by the harbour next to the one-lane bridge on the Tairua Main Road from 9am -1pm.

Coromandel Town Homegrown Community Market - Every Friday morning on Wharf Road beside the BNZ bank you will find an array of local, homegrown produce and crafts for sale. 

Whangamata Sunday Market  - Held in the heart of the Whangamata township in the Council carpark on Port Rd from 9am - 1pm, selling goods from arts and crafts to produce. To see the dates for winter click here .

Whitianga Ars and Crafts Market – Held weekly on Saturdays from 9am – noon from Labour Weekend to Easter.  The market is centrally located in Soldiers Memorial Park featuring locally made art, crafts and home-made produce.

Coroglen Farmers Market – Held weekly on Sundays from 9am – noon from Labour weekend through to Easter. You will find quality local organic seasonal produce and check out the handcraft stalls and grab a hot drink or some home-made goodies at the Coroglen hall.

Coastal Collective Market - A market held on the below Saturdays at Cooks Beach shops with a curated selection of stallholders, showcasing the small business of the Mercury Bay Area. The next market is on Labour Weekend, 26 October from 1pm-4pm.
