Our Coromandel Magazine 2018-2019

 Our Coromandel Magazine 2018-19

Our much-loved annual magazine ’Our Coromandel’ is now out, bringing you another great read with Council news, information and stories from this special place in the world.

Our Coromandel 2018-2019 explores and shares the joy of the people, lifestyles, natural beauty and events that make the Coromandel such a great location to live, work and play in every season.

This magazine is primarily targeted at the nearly 60 per cent of our ratepayers who don’t live here full-time.

"Our Coromandel  continues to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback, and is an effective method of engaging with our communities, particularly those who live outside the district," says our communications and economic development group manager Laurna White.

“We want to get people to stay more often and for longer, particularly outside our peak summer period, so they can enjoy more of the lifestyle, events and natural beauty we have access to year-around,” Laurna says.

Gone are the days when the peak season here in the Coromandel was just a few weeks over summer. Businesses tell us the ‘peak’ now stretches from October through to March. This year, Our Coromandel caught up with our regional tourism organisation Destination Coromandel to talk about this ‘shoulder season’ growth, and we share with you some exciting new visitor activities and ways for people to experience the Coromandel.

In this edition, we keep you up-to-date with Council news and information. Find out what our Mayor and councillors have been up to in the last year, and the projects your local Community Boards have been working on since we last published.

We’ve also brought you a special feature on fishing. The waters around the Coromandel offer some of the most enjoyable fishing experiences you’ll find and we catch up with the recreational fishing clubs, charters and some of the characters that share the love for the sport.

Our Council’s parks and reserves team let us in on their favourite local walking tracks, and we’ve got a feature on the environment and the people and initiatives across the district that are looking after our place.

Of course, our regular event listings are back. Hardly a weekend goes by when there’s nothing on the calendar and exciting, quality events are making the Coromandel a year-around destination. Inside the magazine is 10 pages of events - your guide to what’s coming up over the next year.

And there’s plenty more: property, heritage, arts, and profiles of inspiring people in our communities.

So make sure you get you copy and enjoy. You can also view the magazine online hereOr, if you’re a permanent resident, you can pick up a free copy from our Council offices, information centres and district libraries.
