Cabinet art in your neighbourhood
Our Council is excited to announce we’re partnering with Chorus once again in their Cabinet Art Project – now open for submissions.
We’re on the lookout for creative designs to transform those plain telco cabinets into stunning pieces of public art, brighten up the neighbourhood and make your mark in your community.
Whether you’re an established artist or just love to create, this is a chance to have your work seen by our community daily. Plus, selected artists will receive payment for this amazing contribution.

We're collaborating with Chorus again in 2024 to get Chorus cabinets painted by local artists. We'll be calling for designs in August 2024, so keep an eye on this page.
Mayor Len Salt says the Chorus Cabinet Art Programme supports artists to showcase their talents.
“We have so many high-quality artists in the Coromandel, it’s great for them to have this opportunity to display their work. I’m really impressed with the designs we received and we’re looking forward to partnering with Chorus on their Cabinet Art Programme.”
Last year’s designs included beautiful beach landscapes, a mermaid sitting on the rocks at the end of Lonely Bay, and stunning artwork of Coromandel scenery.
Chorus is pleased that the partnership with our Council is continuing for 2024, and Community Relations Manager Jo Seddon says the collaboration "helps us work with more local artists and bring their creativity to life."
“We’re hoping that this is just the beginning.”
Artists who last year painted their designs on cabinets around the district included:
Artists:
• Emma Gustafson: Coromandel Nature (pictured)
• Brigita Botma: Coromandel Beach at Dawn
• Sarah Nicolson: Mermaid at Lonely Bay (pictured)
• Joel Nicholas: A Walk Amongst the Kōwhai
• Saskia Lee: Thames Coast
• Rebecca Coggins: Bush and River Scene with Eels
• Alesha Davies-Blackburn: Whangamatā Beach
