Buffalo Beach Road - Reduced Speed and Diversions

Traffic management measures will be in place on Whitianga’s Buffalo Beach Rd from Monday 11 November as work begins on extending the beach’s rock wall.

The rock wall will be extended by about 30 metres to help restore a section of beach and reserve washed away in Cyclone Gabrielle.

The existing 50km/h speed limit will be reduced to 30km/h near Halligan Rd for two to three weeks, while work is being carried out.

Pedestrians will be diverted across the road during this time as there will be heavy machinery and trucks accessing the site.

The work is expected to be completed before the busy summer season.

Network Resealing Programme

Network-resealing-programme.png

Work on our Council's district-wide road resealing programme is underway.

The work is weather dependent with the schedule as follows:

  Chip seal
Tuesday 3 December
Kūaotunu: Black Jack Rd, Irishtown Rd - completed
Wednesday 4 December Ōpito Bay: Calder Pl, Matapaua Bay Rd
Thursday 5 December  Ōpito Bay: Ohinau Dr, Thompson Pl, Stewart Pl
Friday 6 December  Coroglen: The 309 Rd

Our contractor will distribute letters to all affected households before urban streets are resurfaced. These letters will provide all the additional information needed, including the planned date of surfacing. As well as letter drops, we'll provide updates of the work programme on this web page and on our social media. Daily updates on sites scheduled each day will also be broadcast on local radio stations.

Please park your vehicles off the road on the day of the works to allow the full width of the road to be surfaced. Any vehicles parked on the road following notification may be towed to a nearby towing yard at the owner’s expense.

While the work is being done, traffic will be controlled by traffic controllers and temporary traffic management. We'll try to minimise any inconvenience to motorists. However, we ask motorists to be patient and follow the directions of traffic controllers and temporary speed restriction signs.

Once surfacing is completed, there will be speed restrictions in place and loose chip on the road surface in the early stages after the work. Where necessary, sites will be re-swept at later dates.

State highway maintenance and recovery work (NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi)

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi contractors regularly carry out chip sealing and asphalt surfacing across the Waikato, alongside the larger infrastructure projects. This contributes to improving the condition of the state highway network, resulting in smoother journeys for everyone.

Work has been planned to minimise delays, but given the volume of work, there are parts of the network where people may experience some sort of disruption. It’s important to factor in extra time to your journey, to ensure you arrive on time to your destination.

The NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi Journey Planner (journeys.nzta.govt.nz) is the best place for information on the status of the state highway network. With live updates on worksites and other road hazards, Journey Planner can help road users plot the best route to their destination.

State Highways are controlled by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi. Check their website for State Highway status updates.

With work still underway at sites along SH25, it's important that motorists drive to the conditions.

To keep contractors and road users safe, signage is in place to give advance warning of worksites and potential hazards such as slippery or uneven surfaces. Please follow any temporary speed restrictions and reduce your speed as you approach these sites.

Check NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi's website or Facebook page for the latest updates.
